Absinthe products

Absinthe is a drink with a high alcohol content. It comes from the colors and leaves of the plant Artemisia absinthium (wormwood). Besides wormwood, absinthe contains anise, fennel, hyssop, it can also include roots of angelica, rosin, coriander, jeron, juniper, nutmeg and various herbs.
Each distillery has its own recipe and a combination of herbs that is kept secret.
Absinthe is one of the most scandalous drinks, leaving a lasting impression in art over the centuries. Source of inspiration to many famous artists and poets - Van Gogh, Degas, Toulouse-Lautrec, Picasso, Artyut Rimbaud, Paul Verlaine, Edgar Allan Poe, Oscar Wilde, Hemingway and others.

Francois Guy is often described as one of the very best brands available. The reason is clear: Guy is one of the few distilleries left that produced Absinthe in the Belle Epoch. The recipes are nearly the same as then and as you can see yourself, they are using the old stills that have been in use since the late 19th century. Its unique taste is absolutely fantastic: well balanced herbal notes, slight bitterness from the Wormwood that they grow themselves.

The Absinthe brand “La Pontissalienne” had already existed before the Absinthe ban. Back then it was the famous Distillerie Vichet from Pontarlier that produced this Absinthe. As nearly every Absinthe brand disappeared after the ban in 1915, La Pontissalienne was nearly forgotten, but after 100 years Francois Guy reanimated the brand as a special edition for the Absinthiades of 2011. It won a Gold Medal both in 2011 and 2013 at the Absinthiades and in between, there was another Gold Medal awarded at the Concours General du Salon de l’Agriculture de Paris. The Guy distillery is known for taking a lot of care for tradition, so they use traditional Absinthe alembics that had been previously used by the Duval distillery in Pontarlier. The formula is relatively simple but very effective: fine Andalusian Anise Seed and powerful Wormwood from French Jura combine into a perfect aroma locals have preferred ever since.
